I am happy to accept this nomination for Member-at-Large within one of my primary professional homes, the Society for Health Psychology (SfHP). I am an Investigator at the Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Research and my research focuses on embedding behavioral interventions for obesity and chronic disease management in clinical care settings. I have expertise in development, implementation, and analysis of behavioral interventions, including use of advanced statistical modeling such as structural equation modeling.
Since 2011 I have been an active member of the SfHP, serving first as the Vice-Chair of the Health Research Council (2011-2013) and later as the Chair (2013-2017). I also served as the 2018 Program Chair. During Dr. Dawn Wilson’s SfHP presidential term, I worked closely with her to start up the new SfHP Health Policy Council and served as council Chair from 2018-2019. Under my leadership the Health Policy Council responded to and co-authored 9 policy briefs and public comments on national health policies, facilitated SfHP’s endorsement of 3 policy statements, and published 4 policy statements/ white papers. As Member-at-Large, I would continue to support the advocacy efforts of both SfHP and the larger APA, particularly as it relates to expanding the reach of health psychology, implementing evidence-based behavioral medicine in clinical practice, and promoting health equity.
