It is an honor to be nominated for President-Elect of SfHP. I am a Professor, Director of Clinical Training, and former Chair in the Department of Psychology at the University of Iowa and a Fellow of the Society. My research involves the study of treatment adherence and self-management among patients with chronic medical problems. SfHP has been a professional home for me since my days as a graduate student at Utah and has provided me essential opportunities to present my work, network and build relationships, and be part of a community dedicated to improving health through psychological science and evidence-based practice. I previously served as SfHP Program Chair and am currently serving as Chair of the Clinical Health Services Council. As Council Chair I worked on a range of initiatives involving bridging research and practice including co-leading a working group on demonstrating the cost effectiveness of health psychology interventions. I have also served as President of the Society of Behavioral Medicine and Editor-in-Chief of Annals of Behavioral Medicine and Journal of Behavioral Medicine.

My association with SfHP has been an invaluable aspect of my own professional development. Given the opportunity to serve as President I pledge to work diligently to ensure the Society continues to offer members opportunities for involvement and advocacy, fosters members’ professional growth, and provides support for education, service delivery and science. Above all else, I welcome the opportunity to pay it forward to the next generation of health psychologists.
