I am honored to be nominated for Member-at-Large of my professional home, the Society for Health Psychology.
I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), Core Faculty within the OHSU clinical psychology doctoral program, and Investigator in the Health Services Research Center at the Portland VA. I work as a pain psychologist in an outpatient alcohol and drug treatment program and as a consultant to the OHSU/Portland VA liver transplant team. My research focuses on the development, rigorous testing, and implementation of interventions to improve mental and behavioral health in populations living with chronic pain, HIV, and substance use disorders.
My service to the Society began as a member of the Early Career Professionals (ECP) Council for which I later served a 3-year term as Chair. In this role, I oversaw a vibrant council of more than 20 ECPs that helped further the mission of the Society and vitalize its early career members. I also served as a Member of the Society’s Long Range Planning Task Force and am the Society’s Program Chair for the 2019 APA Convention in Chicago.
Our Society’s Long Range Plan identifies member “inreach” as one of its four overarching goals. As your Member-at-Large, I will work to enhance member benefits by establishing Society-sponsored continuing education and training opportunities, advancing the work of our special interest groups, and cultivating new and existing research programs for graduate student and ECP members. Thank you for your consideration.
