Candidate for Division Representative to APA Council (2019-2021)
Thank you for the privilege to have served as your Representative on APA Council for the past three years. I am asking for your #1 vote so that I can continue my work for Division 38 and Health Psychology. As your Council Rep, I am well versed in how APA governance functions and how to move our Division’s agenda forward. I helped lead the charge for our Division to gain an important third representative on Council to enhance our voice. Recently I worked on several health-related issues including supporting divisions’ work with groups outside of APA to endorse relevant recommendations, ensuring APA uses current terminology thus keeping psychology truly part of integrated healthcare, and that Health Psychology’s research and services are represented in APA’s focus on work force development. Our work for Health Psychology can be found in The Health Psychologist (https://div38healthpsychologist.com/past-issues/). During the next few years APA will be rewriting its Bylaws and Strategic Plan. It is essential that we have a strong voice in both activities to ensure that Health Psychology, as a science, recognized healthcare specialty, and major educator of our next generation of psychologists, is seen as central to the future of psychology and APA. I have the experience to help do that as current chair of APA’s Policy and Planning Board and past chair of the Boards of Educational and Professional Affairs. Thus, I would be an experienced and strong representative for Division 38 on APA Council. Thank you for your #1 vote.
