Barbara A. Cubic, PhD
I am honored to be nominated for Treasurer for the Society of Health Psychology. I have been a faculty member at the Eastern Virginia Medical School within the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences (with a joint appointment in Family and Community Medicine) since 1992. My service to the division has included being our representative on the 2012 APA Inter-Organizational Work Group on Competencies for Psychological Practice in Primary Care and being a core committee member for the Integrated Primary Care Curriculum Committee over the last four years.
I have considerable experience serving APA and other psychology organizations in Board positions. I have been the Secretary and President for the Association of Psychologists in Academic Health Centers and am currently a CFAS representative to the AAMC. I recently completed a four year term on the Council of Clinical Health Psychology Training Programs. And, perhaps most germane to the current position within the Society of Health Psychology, I served as Treasurer for the Society of Clinical Psychology for three years.
My experience has taught me the importance of being financially prudent while open to funding important and innovative activities of an organization. Health psychology can and should be at the forefront of health care and health care reform and this should be part of our division’s mission. Our discipline has an enormous amount to offer. As Treasurer I will work diligently to insure that we are able to meet this mission. I look forward to serving the division if elected.
