Nancy B. Ruddy, PhD
Thank you for this nomination and the opportunity to work on your behalf. I bring a diverse and unusual background in practice, scholarship, marketing and policy. I have worked in varied settings, from academic health centers and community hospitals to private practice, and even advertising. Before finding my “home” as a health psychologist in primary care, I trained in clinical child and family psychology and remain connected to those communities. Each experience imbued skills critical for a President-Elect, including the need to communicate clearly and “market” evidence based health psychology.
I have served as a CoA Commissioner, Interdivisional Health Commission representative, Co-chair of the Integrated Primary Care SIG and on multiple task forces. I have pushed forward the development and dissemination of Integrated Primary Care training resources. My peer recognition includes the Timothy Jeffrey Award for Contributions to Health Psychology, Division 38 Fellow status and an APA Presidential Citation. A long-term Society member, I know from the inside that our strength is our membership; I will seek member input on currently unmet needs, and ensure current and prospective members recognize, access and utilize Society membership benefits.
We know health psychologists are part of the solution to our healthcare woes. I will work collaboratively to ensure critical decision makers understand this, too. I look forward to using my experience and expertise to ensure that health psychologists can serve a central role in improving a healthcare system that desperately needs us.
