Join us for the 38th anniversary of Division 38, the Society for Health Psychology, at the APA Convention in Denver, August 4-7, 2016!

We are celebrating our contributions to improving health over the past 38 years, and the trajectory we have set for continued contributions along the translational pathway, from basic science to intervention development and trials, to dissemination and implementation research and practice.

    • SfHP Presidents Panel moderated by President Alex Rothman and ECP Chair Travis Lovejoy
    • Meet the Presidents social hour
    • At least 15 past presidents will be participating
    • Presidential Theme: Targeting leading causes of death
      • Invited speaker Dr. Monica Webb Hooper will review contributions of health psychology to targeting tobacco
      • Invited speaker Dr. Amy Gorin will review contributions of health psychology to targeting obesity
    • Anniversary celebration at The Crimson Room, Saturday at 6:00pm
  • #Translate 38
    • Presidential Theme:   Reviewing health psychology’s contributions to the translational pathway
      • Drs. Susan Lutgendorf, Barbara Andersen, Qian Lu, Shawna Ehlers, and Annette Stanton review the translational pathway underlying cancer stress management, including basic mechanisms, intervention trials, and dissemination and implementation in the context of mandated distress screening
      • Presidential Address: Promoting the initiation and maintenance of behavior change: Lessons learned forging connections between theory and application
  • #Integrate 38
    • Drs. William Gunn, Barbara Ward-Zimmerman, Nancy Ruddy, Mark Vogel, Lisa Kearney, Christopher Neumann, Mark Stillman, and students Christine Mullen and Chase Grosse present a curriculum for teaching integrated primary care
    • Drs. Dawn Wilson, Keri Stephens, William Gunn, Rodger Kessler, and Jennifer Carroll compare models of integrated primary care
    • Drs. RoseAnne Illes, Afton Koball, Amy Wachholt, Andrea Bradford, and Adrienne Williams review considerations unique to integrated primary and specialty care
    • Drs. Tracey Revenson, Brett Millar, Aliza Panjwani, Kirti Thurmmala, and Helen Coons review fear, uncertainty, and catastrophizing as factors of psychological adjustment across chronic conditions

The schedule also includes plenty of additional programming, including sessions focused on youth health, health equity and racism, psychology leadership in health systems, and APA’s collaboration with the American Diabetes Association.

Please note that this year our two poster sessions will be grouped by topics of “Integrated care, cancer, HIV, pain, and basic research” and “Behavior change, obesity, diabetes, and heart health.” Groups of 5-6 presenters will present to each other under the direction of a poster host for each group.
