Ronald H. Rozensky, PhD, ABPP
As a Fellow of Division 38, I would be honored to serve as your Representative on APA Council. I co-chaired the APA Presidential Initiative that resulted in adding “health” to the APA Bylaws, long overdue recognition of the important scientific, clinical, and educational contributions of Division 38 members. I was appointed to a U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Advisory Committee that helped ensure inclusion of interprofessional healthcare in the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The year I chaired that Federal committee, our report to Congress focused on the scientific study of “health behaviors” and the importance of funding education on that topic as a key component of healthcare reform. As APA embraces its focus on health with its new Center for Psychology and Health, it is important that Division 38 have strong voices advocating for health psychology as a science, a healthcare specialty, and key in educating psychology’s next generation. As Past Chair of APA’s Boards of Educational Affairs and Professional Affairs and Commission for the Recognition of Specialties and Proficiencies in Professional Psychology, I am well versed in how APA’s governance system functions and how to move our Division’s agenda through APA. I have published textbooks and journal articles on health psychology and health policy, spoken extensively on the implications of the ACA for psychology’s future, and chaired an academic department with APA accredited graduate and internship programs. Thus, I will be an experienced, strong representative for Division 38 on APA Council. Thank you for your #1 vote.
Jared L. Skillings, PhD, ABPP
As your APA Council Representative for Division 38, I would be an active voice for health psychology. I am ABPP board-certified in both Clinical Health Psychology and Cognitive and Behavioral Psychology, with a strong commitment to science, training, and practice. I am the Behavioral Medicine Director for the Spectrum Health System in Grand Rapids, Michigan and Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Surgery at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. My local leadership experiences include membership on the Spectrum Heart Failure Steering Committee and the Michigan Psychological Association Board of Directors. I recently completed a term as President of the American Academy of Clinical Health Psychology, which resulted in greater inclusion of early career and diverse psychologists and 133% increase in membership. I also currently serve on the Executive Committee of the Board of Professional Affairs and on the Health Psychology Specialty Council.
As your Council Representative I will contribute the same energy, focus, and measurable progress I’ve brought to my prior professional service. I will work to (1) expand psychology’s role in advancing health, (2) increase recognition of psychology as a science and STEM discipline, and (3) increase ECP membership and involvement in APA, particularly for our health psychology initiatives.
